OUR NEW LIVES

THROUGH OUR EYES

Excerpt from New Years 2062 issue of The Peoples Word

As Head Report-Man, I was asked to write in my own words, the history of how we came to be and what happened. This is our story…

Now it’s the year 2062, just thirty-two years since the New Korean Conflict ended. “The Conflict” as it had come to be known, shortly after the Koreans defeated the U.S. troops in a war to rival that, which had been the climax in Afghanistan only twenty some years prior. The Koreans had reunified shortly after the death of Kim Jong Un. North and South Korea had discussions, reunified and almost immediately declared war on both the U.S. and Canada. The surprise attack on Washington D.C. happened late in the evening around 9 PM on February 2, 2020. The Koreans bombed the White House, successfully. Only months later we were all in camps. The years dragged on before the newly appointed Dictator of the Peoples Republic Of North America, Yoon Sung Li abolished our prison camps and allowed us to live free lives after the enforcement of The Freedom Act of 2034. The Act basically stated we could do as we wished, as long as Dictator Li approved. He was a kind man and not as bad as the Koreans had made the takeover out to be originally. We feared a Hitler-like world; luckily it didn’t turn out to be. Millions died in the ten-year war leading up, it was a scary time and an unfortunate cost for the easy living life we now enjoy.

The prison camps were turned into work camps. The work camps were as businesses were in the early 21st century, each camp had it’s own special purpose. Each laborer had their own special abilities and profession appointed at birth and would study, as scholars at the learning modules, starting from the early age of two. I myself was delegated to be a spreader of the word of the people at birth and attended the Journalist Learning Module in New Seoul, graduating at the age of 18 and went straight to work for The Peoples Word, the only newsfeed in the New Peoples Republic. One down side was that most technology was wiped out during The Conflict. All Internet, television, phone and print communication was severed. In time television and phone was restored, Internet is still currently in development. We are evolving with the times as our late ancestors did in the past. We have come a long way and we will strive to continue evolving and develop past the technology that was laid before us.

If there is anything history will teach us, it’s that we will rebuild to a higher level, thanks to our gracious leader Yoon Sung Li. Praise him and his brilliant ideology and teachings. God Bless Him and The New Peoples Republic!
